The History of OSC

The most valuable of all creation is the human race.

After spending a year working in the Leprosy Colonies of India with Mother Teresa and providing life saving supplies to the drought ridden tribes of East Africa, OSC’s founder, Richard Vannucci, had this life changing revelation. This was realized as he gazed into the joyful faces of the children whose lives he was working to save. So much of the suffering was unnecessary. He returned home with a burning desire to try and help alleviate the suffering of children and their families.

More than a decade was spent educating others about the condition of the human race in the USA and around the globe. He also volunteered and worked with numerous non-profit organizations. OSC’s founder then began to realize his dream of creating a new approach to providing desperately needed services and education. He knew that basic needs must be met before education can be effective. Hence a “teach the person to fish while they eat the fish they have just been provided” approach was developed

The circumstances that often turn a family’s life into crisis are often financial.

A child’s illness turns into lost paydays, a child’s prescription is too expensive, an eviction notice appears, utility shut-off notices appear. The crisis is often temporary, however the stress the family encounters often causes many abuses towards children. OSC strengthens families by collaborating with local services, providing support to the agencies already doing everything they can to assist families. OSC requires families to attend financial skill building workshops to earn the funding needed to provide a healthy family. OSC assists families in dissipating their immediate financial crisis, and in making positive changes so they reduce and eliminate their reliance on further assistance and charity. OSC provides a hand up, not just a hand out.

OSC provides guaranteed delivery of supplies

OSC’s founder became appalled of abuses in the nonprofit sector. He witnessed international relief efforts that filled “Black Markets” with vital necessities. Supplies were buried in shallow graves. They were of no use or local communities did not understand their values. For every $1.00 donated, OSC delivers over $60.00 of hand-delivered medical supplies. Most importantly, volunteers who deliver OSC medical kits teach the recipients how to use them effectively and efficiently.
OSC has developed a system where not only every dollar of unrestricted funding provides direct relief, but every dollar is exponentially increased due to collaborative efforts amongst donors and suppliers. Special sponsors secure all fundraising expenses. Special donors, events and the Board of Directors generously provide all administrative expenses.
